Using Windows Sound Recorder
Windows includes a simple sound recording application. It looks like a tape recorder panel, and is easy to use. Sound recorder can be used to record with a microphone or audio input. It can also be used for simple editing, mixing, and adding effects to sound files.

In Windows XP
Select Start ->, All Programs ->, Accessories ->, Entertainment ->, and Sound Recorder.

In Windows 98 and Windows 2000
Select Start ->, Programs ->, Accessories ->, Entertainment ->, and Sound Recorder.

Windows Sound Recorder

To record a sound, you will need a microphone, sound card, and speakers or headphones.

High quality recordings can create large sound files. This is normally not a problem if the recordings will be placed on a CD-ROM. However, if the recordings will be part of a downloaded file, the large size could present a problem. The quality of the recordings and playback can be changed by Windows Sound Recorder.
